Care for the Elders

Background - This poetry portrays a true incident. This poet helps an older woman to cross the road and earns respect, blessings and a valuable smile. This poetry gives away the message that how caring one should be in terms of showing some respect to our elders.

When I’m lonely through the street
I behold an old woman
With wrinkled and gnarled skin
Pretending to cross the road
Her legs seems to be shivered
Her face seems to be disturbed
She stood impatiently nearby the road
Gazing at the dashing streets

Big duckers rushed smashing the dust
And small ones slithered on the crust
No one turned to help this needy
At her severe hours of agony

The anxious crowd moaned among themselves
They had no time to lend their hands
That they all moved away in no time
As they were not a part of this game

This sight and thought motivated me
To eject from the crowd to lend my hands
Old people should never be ignored
For they are the patrons of this land

I clasped her shivering hand in hand
Made her way to cross the road
The woman thanked me in joyous glee
This shed a lot more blessings for me

When this world will learn to share?
The old with their respect and care
Love and care resides in all of us
Just find some time to fill our hearts
With such thoughts and deeds of kindness
